Meaning of Judgement : Judgement means the observation and decision of court of law in respect of a particular case after conclusion of a trial. Content of Judgement : Every Judgement - Shall be written in the language of the court. Shall contain the point or points for determination, the decision there on and the reason for the decision. Shall specify the offence of which and section of The Indian Penal Code, 1860 or other law under which the accused is convicted and the punishment to which he is sentenced. If the Judgement is of acquittal, it shall state the offence, of which the accused is acquitted and direct that he be set at liberty section 354(1). Object of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986


Introduction :-

The law relating to consumer protection is  contend in the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The Act applies to all goods and services. The Central Government may however by notification published in the official gazette exempt any goods or services.
The of the Consumer Protection Act 1986 are as follows :-

1) Better protection of interest of consumer:- 

The Act seeks to provide for batter protection of the interest of the consumer. For that purpose, the Act makes, provision for the establishment of consumer council and other authorities for the settlement of consumer dispute and for matters connected therewith(Preamble to the Act).

2) Protection of rights of consumers:-

The Act seeks, inter alia, to promote and protect the rights of consumers such as -
a) The right to be protected against marketing of goods or services which are hazardous.
b) The right to be informed about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard and price of goods or services so as to protect the consumer against unfair trade practices.
c) The right to be assured, wherever possible, access to goods and services at competitive prices.
d) The right to be heard and to be assured that consumer interest will receive due consideration at appropriate forums.
e) The right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices or restrictive trade practices or unscrupulous exploitation of consumer.
f) Right to consumer education.

3) Consumer protection council :-

The above object are sought to be promoted and protected by the consumer protection council established at the Central and State levels.

4) Quasi-judicial machinery for speedy redressal of consumer disputes :-

The Act seeks to provide speedy and simple redressal to consumer disputes. For this purpose, there has been set up a quasi-judicial machinery at the district, State and Central level. This quasi-judicial bodies are supposed to observed the principle of natural justice and are empowered-
a) TO give relief of a specific nature.
b) To award, wherever appropriate, compensation to consumer.

Penalties for non-compliance of the orders given by the quasi-judicial bodies have also been provided.
